Short Term Goal: What's Your Physical Improvement Vision for Christmas?

The delightful Chubby Chick asks:

"What goals would you like to accomplish by Christmas?"

This is actually a very good question.

Setting short-term goals is a key part of achieving a long-term plan. For gals like Chubby Chick and I who have to lose a lot of weight, long-term is a reality. We will not be at goal weight any time soon, unlike, say, someone who only needs to lose 5, 10 or 25 pounds.

For us, dreams of slenderness are far away. At minimum, on a sane plan, a couple years. At minimum, on a radical and wild-assed plan, a year.

There is no immediate rainbow. There is no within-reach pot of sleekness gold.

But short term goals give us a sense of having made it SOMEWHERE, of having succeeded at SOMETHING in the journey. Whether it's the weekly goals or the monthly goals, they help keep the eyes on the prize.

So, Christmas. That's only 3 and a half months away. That'll pass mighty quick. And to get there, we must traverse the Halloween candy nonsense and the Thanksgiving pig-out temptations and assorted holy days (for Jewish folks) and weather changes (for folks in the temperate climes).

Where do *I* want to be in 3 1/2 months?

Well: 30 pounds lighter for one. That would put me at 250. I haven't been 250 since, since...er...okay, years. Probably around 2002 or earlier. So, losing that is like time-traveling to a younger age. :)

Part of accomlishing that is to have learned to cook at least 7 healthful dinner dishes that my husband will eat. (He's very finicky. It's a pain trying to figure out suppers that suit my weight-loss and taste needs and his taste and finicky needs.) I would point out that I'm useless in the kitchen unless it's boiling up pasta or making an omelette. I really don't know how to cook.

I'd also like to have totally completed and revised my novel by December 22 (so I can enjoy the holidays in peace).

And I'd like to have saved at least $600 toward a great anniversary party next year.

These are my goals, condensed:

~~Be at 250 lbs (or less)
~~Learn 7 healthful dinner dishes
~~Have completed novel, revised.
~~Have saved $600.00
for party

What are your "By Christmas" goals. (Or, if you're Jewish or Moslem or etc, your "By End of Year" goals.)

I LOVE having goals! Yours look totally do-able.

By the way, what's your novel about?

I agree, Chubby Chick is delightful! I also think you've set some great goals for yourself. I'm in the same club, I've lost over 70lbs, still have about 130 to go...I've been saying my goal is to be under 300 but I think a better goal would be 325, that would put me at 100 pounds lost for the year. Thanks for making me think about this!!
