Crash diets are unrealistic because you cannot do them for the rest of your life...
Someone has compared crash diets with holding your breath. You can do it but only for so long. At some point you have to breathe or else you die. What people need for permanent weight loss is a strategy that they can maintain for the rest of their life. They have to fix the real problem of not enough physical activity and too many calories. Crash diets are like putting a Band-Aid on a deep wound. It will stop the flow of blood but only for a very short time.
